Artistic Process
My mother has an original painting of daffodils that my great-grandmother painted. In a way, this is my interpretation of that painting. My great-grandmother, living on a farm in western North Carolina in the early 1940s, depicted daffodils growing from the ground with tall grasses surrounding them. In contrast, my depiction, living in Raleigh during 2019, shows cut blooms on display in a foyer with a nod to my great-grandmother’s painting in the background.
